Knight Roland and the robbers – reading and painting activity

To the 550th anniversary of the current Roland statue in Brandenburg in 2024, author Heiko Hesse and media designer Elli Swonken are re-staging three legends about Roland and the robber chief Habakuk Schmauch. Re-staging means that it is finally time to see the traditional stories as they could really have been. Elli Swonken and Heiko Hesse present the book and the idea behind it on Rietzer Berg. Elli Swonken gives insights into her work, showing, for example, how to paint with coffee, while Heiko Hesse chats about the creation of these stories and the true origin of the legends. For people aged 9 and over. Free admission.

The hunters’ graves – burial rituals of prehistory

The oldest cemetery in Germany is located near Groß Fredenwalde in the Uckermark. For the first time, a group of Stone Age hunter-gatherers buried their dead here in a permanent place. How did the graves differ from what we know today? And how did burial customs develop after that? Based on a unique site in Brandenburg, the lecture by archaeologist and expert on the Palaeolithic and Mesolithic Andreas Kotula from the Brandenburg State Office for the Preservation of Monuments delves into the burial customs of our ancestors.
