Support Rietzer Berg
We are a landscape and art association with a large park area and are looking for people to support us. There is a lot to discover on the Rietzer Berg and also a lot to do! We have forest areas, perennial beds, a large vegetable garden and animals to take care of. Especially in the summer months and in the fall, we can hardly manage to get everything done. We take the organic approach and do not use herbicides, insecticides or the like. So sometimes it feels like the weeds outgrow us. Support our association in preserving this wonderful place.
You want to be part of it?
Then take a look here at what we currently need support with. If you have another idea, feel free to contact us: info@rietzerberg.de or 03381 211438 (Mon-Fri 9am to 3pm or leave a message and we will call you back).

Donkey walk
We are looking for people who regularly lead donkey walks with our guests. Our curious and crafty friends are looking forward to company and some extra attention. You will be introduced to the donkey language in advance. Together you will explore the surroundings of the forest garden. Depending on the donkeys' desire to walk, the walk lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours. Should children come along, one adult per child and donkey must be present to help. The donkey walk is offered free of charge. Most guests give a donation. Dates will be arranged with you in advance.
Animal care
Do you like animals and want to take care of them regularly? We have donkeys and sheep that need to be taken care of, e.g. by grooming the fur, cleaning the hooves, feeding, petting. Also suitable for children from 8 years accompanied by an adult. When the farrier takes care of the donkey hooves, it's super helpful if you're there to hold and pet them reassuringly. If you would like to take special care of one of the animals, you can also become a sponsor. Feel free to contact us about this.
Organizing the library
Do you like books and enjoy sorting and organizing? Then take care of our plant library. In the basement of the guest house is the library. It is available to the interested public with its extensive plant literature and can also be expanded with donations. But so far, the books are still somewhat disorganized on the shelves. There is no overview of which books are available. Your job would be to catalog our books and put them in the right order.
Support the Open Gardens with the concerts
Help make our events a success. We offer a platform to artists and cultural professionals and present our garden to the general public. The Open Gardens are held once a month on a Sunday from 10 am - 6 pm. Such an event requires a lot of helping hands. We would appreciate the support of 1-2 people on those days. There are tasks like making coffee, greeting and informing guests or special tasks like taking photos and filming - for this, you should have some previous experience.
Vegetable and perennial garden
Help us look after the vegetable, perennial and community gardens. Our garden and landscape park covers about 4 hectares. A large area that - especially in summer - requires intensive care. Even though we manage many areas in a permaculture fashion, a garden needs structure and occasionally needs to be cleared of plants that get too comfortable and spread out a lot. Maybe you don't have your own garden, but enjoy pulling weeds in the vegetable patch, tending perennials, sowing seeds, or bring experience pruning plants? Then we would be happy to welcome you here. We will briefly instruct you beforehand and then, depending on your time resources, you can get started.
Tree planting project
Are you interested in taking care of tomorrow's forest? We planted about 1000 trees on Rietzer Berg in the spring of 2023. With a special technique, which is also used in the desert of Saudi Arabia, it is possible to water the plants very precisely and thus bring a high number of seedlings through the dryness of the summer. Therefore, we water each sapling every two to three weeks over a period of 3 years. Watering takes about 2 days. But don't worry, you can help us out for just one day or a couple of hours. Even just a few weeks or months. Of course, you are welcome to accompany the little trees throughout the entire period.
Geocaching
We want to attract more people to our place and get them out into nature. For this, a geocaching tour in or around the park is great. Think of a few clues and hiding places and create a tour, preferably on different topics and for different target groups. We will be happy to support you and take you on a tour of our garden and landscape park in advance.
Garden tour
Our garden is open to all. We want to tell people about our great project and show them around. After a briefing from us, you will guide individuals or groups through the garden, explaining the concept and the individual garden areas and answering guests' questions.
Cooking with the Green Classroom
5th grade students from a local school join us and spend a project day in the garden each month for an entire school year. They are in the vegetable patch of the school garden, the build benches, and cook for everyone at the end of the day. Assist our groups with the school's "Green Classroom" project by supporting the cooking group. Think up recipes, chop vegetables, and cook up something delicious in the big pot over the fire! Every other Thursday from 9 am - 1 pm.
Care of the school garden during the summer holidays
To prevent the school garden beds from becoming completely overgrown over the weeks of the summer holidays, we are looking for volunteers to take care of them for the time. Irrigation is automatic, but the garden needs weeding from time to time. Once a week during the summer holidays should be enough.
