“Human Connection Africa” – pop-up photo exhibition by Nigerian artist Nseabasi Akpan in the bunker

A farmer in Ghana, a garbage collector in Benin, young people in Guinea - Nigerian photographer Nseabasi Akpan has met and captured the lives of many people on his travels through Africa. He doesn't just take photos, but establishes a connection with his subjects, learns about their lives and tells their stories. With his photos, he aims to educate, entertain and draw attention to social grievances in order to give a voice to people who are otherwise not heard.

The connection between people is particularly important to him, as is the exchange with young people. On his travels to many African countries, he has given workshops in youth clubs, schools and the local art scene to teach young people how to express themselves through art and to show them that they can build a life with a craft or art and stay in their home country instead of fleeing to Europe in search of a better life.

From April 27 to April 29, 2024, his works and those of other African artists will be exhibited in the bunker on Rietzer Berg. It starts on Saturday, April 27, at 11 am and ends on Monday, April 29, at 7 pm. The bunker is open on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm and on Monday from 3 pm to 7 pm. Music is provided by young people from Brandenburg. Nseabasi would also like to talk to young people here, talk about his creative life and the lives of young people in Africa and find out more about the lives of youth in Germany.

The bunker is somewhat hidden at the foot of the Rietzer Berg. Walk or drive from Neuschmerzke in the direction of Rietzer Berg to the signpost at the crossroads (cross on the map). From there, signs will guide you to the bunker (circle on the map).
