Dead Hedges
Dead hedges or Benjes hedges are built out of dead wood, mostly thin shrubs like branches and twigs that are loosely collected in linear piles. They serve as protection from the wind, habitat for animals and prevent the soil from drying out. Seeds are distributed by the wind and bird droppings which over time create a natural and diverse hedge for food and habitat of a variety of birds, insects and small mammels.
