Green Classroom

Since the end of 2022, the Green Classroom on Rietzer Berg has been an extracurricular place of learning. Every month, fourth- and fifth-grade students of different Elementary Schools in Brandenburg come to the Green Classroom for a project day to put their knowledge from school into practice in practical projects.

In the process, the children are divided into three groups. One group takes care of the construction of the classroom in the open air: for this purpose, models were built from natural materials, jointly selected the most beautiful model, and then began to build benches.

The second group grows fruit and vegetables on its own arable land. They made plant pots, grew plants in the greenhouse, and added donkey manure to the field.

The third group is responsible for feeding the whole class and cooks over the fire, preferably from their own produce from the garden.

The Green Classroom is run by biologist and nature educator Franziska Hoehl and experiential educator Oliver Balke.

The project has already been funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Climate Protection (MLUK), the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MBJS) and the Zukunftsstiftung Landwirtschaft. At the moment, we are supported by the German Children's Fund.
