Sophie Stein
Connecting with nature
Pulling a carrot out of the ground, popping it straight into her mouth with the soil attached and eating it - that was an experience that made Sophie Stein feel more connected to nature than ever before. She also enjoyed spending time with George, probably the most love-struck sheep in the area. In order to concentrate on writing in peace, she wanted to get out of the city for a few weeks and into nature.
Working on her latest novel
The author and screenwriter spent three weeks at the art hermitage at Rietzer Berg in September. She actually likes to write in cafés in the city, but the peace and quiet at Rietzer Berg made her unexpectedly productive. She had set her sights on her novel, which she has been working on for four years. Somewhat bogged down by the long time and long breaks between writing, she completely overturned the structure.
Parallel worlds
Sophie likes contrasts. Alongside her work as a writer, she does a wide variety of jobs to gain an insight into other realities and to clear her head for writing. Because there's nothing better than a personal insight to be able to write about something.
Loneliness and silence
The loneliness, silence and darkness in the hermitage were a challenge for the Berliner-by-choice, which she bravely faced. She enjoyed the last hot summer days, spent as much time outside as possible and preferred not to switch on the light when it got dark so as not to be seen from outside. All in all, it was a perfect combination of vacation and productivity due to the lack of distractions.
Sophie Stein's debut work âAmanecerâ was longlisted for the German Pop Literature Prize and she received several awards for a short film screenplay.
