Richard Scott

The composer and performer of experimental music, Richard Scott, was a guest at our hermitage on Rietzer Berg. We gave him the chance to start his sabbatical with a three-week stay in the remote nature of Rietzer Berg. The native Briton lives in Berlin and was eager to get out of the city. In Berlin, he collaborates with the Radio Symphony Orchestra and other underground musicians. He also taught music for a long time at a small school in Berlin.

Reflect and dare an escape from everyday life

There are many ideas for new projects in his head, but he didn't even want to start them during his time off. Richard came with the intention of preparing for the next year, planning the year, reflecting and having an escape from his daily life. However, then realized that the reality is quite different and he also needed something else. Thus, in between, he was in Berlin for three concerts, and during his time at the hermitage, he helped restore sound recordings by Ernest Berg, the first composer of electronic music from the 1950s.

To see the sunrise, he got up at 6:30 every morning and took a walk through nature. He would never get up so early for a walk in Berlin. Firstly, because there is nothing worth seeing in the city at this early hour. On the other hand, in October it gets so pitch black here already at 8 p.m. that he went to bed much earlier than usual. Richard Scott was more influenced by the light of day and the rhythm of nature in the hermitage. On weekends, when the landscape park was closed, our two cats checked on him.
