Astrid Homuth
The autumn landscape and mushrooms played a major role for artist Astrid Homuth of Leipzig. The mushrooms were both painted and eaten. In the beginning of her stay, Astrid drifted about in the quiet and solitude of the surroundings, but created some structure for herself after a couple of days. She read a lot, tried different things, took photos and drew. But certainly there was also enough time to explore the surroundings and collect mushrooms.
Astrid, who studied business administration and has worked as an artist full time for some years, dedicated her time in our residence to experimenting with oil paintings and enjoyed painting in front of the house. But she also created some paintings using egg tempera and watercolors. And most paintings show mushrooms.
When Astrid didn't paint or take photos, she just enjoyed nature, went on hikes in gum boots and watched dear, cranes and wild geese. And was happy to find the time for watching and reading that is hard to find in everyday life.
The solitude of the hermitage was inspiring as well as demanding for her. But after getting used to it she appreciated her creative time alone.
